The Brief

Revamp a two-level townhome to suit a couple with a sophisticated, minimalist aesthetic and their collection of art and 70's artifacts.

Approach

The upper level was reconfigured to take advantage of light from both the laneway and courtyard.

The kitchen was relocated to adjoin the patio dining area. Minimalist custom millwork along the western wall hides a fridge, pantry, storage, and home office.

Custom Steel Screen

A porous steel partition, inspired by South American courtyards visited by the couple in their travels, invites natural light to filter into the staircase and entryway below, animating the space with a subtle play of ever-changing shadows. The space under the stair is used to store gear and the laundry centre.

The Result

An interior face-lift of the compact 1,200 sf apartment personalized the space for the adventurous owners, reflecting their penchant for minimalist detailing and colour.
