The Brief

Float House is a multi-family residential development that preserves and combines two Vancouver Character houses on one lot with five units of dedicated rental. One character house has been on this Mount Pleasant lot since 1905, and the other 1910 character house was rescued from demolition in the West End to be relocated to Mount Pleasant.

The Approach

The Pendrell House in particular had changed considerably since its initial construction, so the design team spent time with the Vancouver Archives researching both the structures and the neighbourhoods to get clues from other similar houses of the time.

A comprehensive BIM model was made of the combined structure in order to fully understand and take advantage of every space, including dormers and attics.
